What happens when I arrive at the airport?

Summary

  • Each arrival situation is unique and the procedure may vary depending on the project and location.
  • Transfer from the airport to the accommodation is usually organised by the project.
  • Pick up will be arranged either by a project manager or a trusted person.
  • A direct transfer or a meeting at a stopover (e.g. bus stop) can be arranged.
  • Changes to the itinerary are possible and will be communicated well in advance.
  • You should inform the project partner of your flight details in order to coordinate the transfer.
  • Any flight cancellations or delays should also be communicated immediately.
  • You will be met directly at the agreed place of arrival, so please wait at the agreed place.
  • During the journey you can exchange information about the rest of the programme.

Once you have found the project of your choice and we have recommended you as a coach, we will inform you of all the procedures and logistical arrangements we know about.

Usually the project will organise the transfer from the airport to your accommodation. You will either be met directly by a project manager or someone from the project will arrange for you to be met. This may be a direct transfer or you may be taken to a specific location, such as a bus stop or petrol station, where your host family or a responsible person will meet you.

Although there may be changes from time to time, you will be informed in advance, sometimes at short notice. We therefore ask you to provide us with your flight details so that we can inform the project partner. We will also put you in touch with your project mentor so that you can discuss the situation on arrival.

In the case of flight cancellations or delays, we also ask you to inform us and your project partner immediately so that they can react and we can consult with the project. Sometimes the journey from the airport to the project is longer and therefore more time consuming. You will be picked up at the place of arrival. Please stay at the agreed location and wait in case the shuttle is delayed or your flight arrives early. Look for the name plates and wait for the driver.

You may find out about the rest of the programme on the way to your host family. Will you be welcomed by the family or will you go straight to the project and be greeted by the team? Will you have time to recover from the long journey?

Please remember that every project is unique and the process can vary from place to place. We know that as a newcomer it can be a little overwhelming at first. We will do our best to give you as much information as possible in advance.
