COACH ABROAD 2024: A new start together!

Children from a sports team leap into the air with their hands in the air, holding their trophies.

For more volunteer sports coaches abroad, for more support for social sports projects for children and young people.

Now that the coronavirus pandemic has left its mark on the volunteers and the initiators of COACH ABROAD with its travel and residence restrictions, we have reorganised our placement service for volunteer coaches abroad.

Some of the sports projects previously listed by COACH ABROAD have only been able to continue their commitment to providing alternatives for children and young people in socially deprived areas with great effort. Some have had to give up, others have made a fresh start or have been created from scratch.

However, the support of social sports projects by voluntary external sports coaches for more sustainability, more expertise and more financial support is and remains of existential importance in and after times of crisis.

COACH ABROAD has set itself the task of reactivating old sports projects or acquiring new ones.

But of course this cannot happen overnight.

Both internal structures and external relationships need to be re-connected or reactivated. Projects are exploring their options for new volunteers, and existing or new host families for trainers need to be persuaded to get involved. In addition, the current political and economic challenges have driven up prices, not only in Europe. Both individual organisations and we need to recalculate budgets and costs.

Nevertheless, somewhere, sometime, we have to make a fresh start. And this new beginning is starting now, with just a few permanent projects and volunteer positions, which we will gradually increase and promote.

Best wishes from Cape Town,
Nicola, Ronny and the COACH ABROAD team
