What are “future activities” in the project description?

Summary

  • Future Activities are additional sports activities that extend the existing programme.
  • The aim is to introduce new sports to get more children and young people involved in sport.
  • These activities are developed in consultation with the project leader.
  • Volunteers can set up and promote new structures and coaches for these additional sports.

As a Sports Volunteer, you will usually actively support a project with your sporting expertise and commitment. You will help to expand the sports concept of the project to attract more children and young people in the future (Ongoing Activities).

In addition to the existing sports, other opportunities can be created to extend the range and expertise within a project. In discussion with the project mentor, we will identify which sports have additional potential in the organisation, club, school or community (Future Activities).

For example, cheerleading could be added to a rugby project. The rugby team can be supported from the sidelines during training or a tournament match. In addition, a new target group of children and young people in the community will be reached and enthused about sport. As a sports coach, you will have the opportunity to develop and promote new structures and future cheerleading coaches within an existing project.

Work in your project

Are there other volunteers in the project and can I get in touch with former volunteers?

Whether there are other volunteers in the project depends on the size of the project, the places available and the popularity of the country. We share experiences, but contact with former volunteers is voluntary.

What are my tasks as a volunteer?

You will focus on training children and young people, helping with fundraising and publicity, planning events, organising workshops and advising the project management.

Will I be supported by a local contact or coach?

Yes, you will be supported by a project mentor. He or she will introduce you to the team, explain how they work and help you with any questions or complications.

Will I have time off during my placement to explore the country and travel?

Yes, but it should be discussed in advance. Make use of weekends, school holidays and free time, but don't forget that your commitment to the project takes priority.
