Frequently ask questions
What are the benefits of registering with COACH ABROAD?
We offer you a placement service to strengthen your local social sport project with qualified and committed volunteers.
Both sides can gain valuable experience. The sports volunteers bring valuable resources and expertise to your organisation, strengthening your own sports skills. They support local young coaches and pass on their sporting knowledge. They help you to improve the sports programme in your community and to achieve your own goals in working with children and young people. You have another energetic person to lend a hand and support you and your team.
In return, volunteers gain an exciting experience of living and working with the local community abroad. Register your project with COACH ABROAD and we will help you find the volunteers who will support and develop your sports project!
How much does it cost to register my project, do I have to pay a fee?
The COACH ABROAD service is not free, but there is no cost to register your sports project.
What you will need to invest is some time to complete the project registration questionnaire in as much detail as possible. We know that your time is valuable, so please read the registration PDF in full first, so that you can complete it as efficiently and accurately as possible.
You will also need to tell us about any local costs that the volunteer will incur, such as accommodation or airport transfers. We will be happy to help you with this. Our service fee will be added to the project fee that the volunteer has to pay to cover your costs. This allows us to cover our costs and yours in the best possible way.
Please contact us for more information or assistance at project@coachabroad.de
Can I submit more than one project?
Of course you can submit more than one project.
For each new project, please complete the project profile and send it to us by email. If you have already registered a project with us, you do not need to fill in all the organisational or additional details again. Only the information that is different from an existing project, such as new contact details, needs to be updated.
If you have any questions about how to fill in the form, it is always easiest to contact us by email at project@coachabroad.de and we will arrange a phone call if necessary. This way, questions can be answered quickly and easily, saving you valuable time.
How long will it take for my project to receive initial volunteer support?
We cannot guarantee the placement of volunteers.
It depends on many factors. These include the type of sport offered, the location of the project, the time available, the general tasks and the daily schedule. Of course, the personal preferences of potential volunteers also play a role, be it financial aspects such as airfares and visa fees, or the realisation of their own goals.
But we will do our best to publicise your project and find the right volunteer. This can take several months. Volunteers often plan up to a year in advance. The visa application process can also vary from country to country.
What is the Bronze, Silver or Gold “Badge of Trust”?
The COACH ABROAD team awards social projects for transparent and reliable communication, positive volunteer experiences and sustainable efforts.
On the one hand, the three-stage evaluation system provides volunteers with a decision-making tool to help them decide whether the project is credible and suitable. On the other hand, it aims to create transparency and insight into the projects, motivate active participation and thus contribute to sustainable quality improvement.
What happens if the collaboration between a volunteer and my project doesn’t work out?
It can always happen that things don’t work out.
Volunteers need to get used to their new environment and work. But also for you as a project partner, there is a new person in your organisation who needs to be trained. Whether it is cultural differences, a different understanding of working methods and processes, interpersonal issues or simply homesickness – it is never possible to calculate how the placement will actually turn out and whether the expectations of both sides will be met.
For us, the first step is to engage with the new environment and with others. Flexibility, understanding and patience are needed from both the volunteer and the project. A good induction and clarification of responsibilities and the code of conduct will help to prevent disappointments and problems. We can give you tips on how to organise this.
If things still don’t work out, we have developed a catalogue of measures to help us and you deal with the situation. We are happy to provide you with further information and assistance.
- Try to resolve the problem by talking to the volunteers. It is important not to put things off. An early discussion can help to resolve any disagreements quickly and prevent a major challenge and cancellation in the first place.
- If the discussion does not bear fruit, you can of course contact us. We will try to mediate between the volunteer and the project office to find a solution. Sometimes it is necessary to clarify certain cultural customs and traditions so that volunteers know how to behave and do not damage their reputation in the community.
- If this dialogue does not help, the only option is to leave the project. Depending on the situation, it may be possible to find an alternative project in the same country. Costs already incurred need not be reimbursed, but the project is not entitled to any outstanding project fees for the originally agreed period.
- As the project leader, you will ensure that the volunteers are cared for in the community until their departure and, if possible, continue to work with them. When they are ready to leave, you will take them to the agreed departure point.
